Sophia Weidemann
"Fanny Hensel is coming to the Nicolaihaus"

Sophia Weidemann

A musical and literary encounter with Fanny Hensel, the great musician in the shadow of her brother Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. Although highly talented, she was set limits early on: talent in a woman is beautiful - but only in the domestic sphere ...! In contrast to her strict father, her husband supported her outstanding abilities as a pianist and composer and traveled with her to Italy in 1839. Here she blossomed, wowed colleagues and listeners alike - and wrote: music, diary and letters.

Sophia Weidemann and Lothar Stolte (reading) bring precisely this mixture to the Nicolaihaus: the magnificent piano cycle
“The Year” - 12 months in 12 compositions - and the world of Fanny Hensel's thoughts in excerpts from her writings.

Sophia Weidemann, multiple award-winner and scholarship holder of the Yehudi Menuhin and Richard Wagner Foundations, has devoted herself entirely to this work by Fanny Hensel and this year released a CD (“Fanny Hensel - The Year” - Genuin Classics).
